FOTZ and the City of Topeka have
entered into a partnership that will bring new
exhibits to the zoo and nearly double the animal
population.
We have been in the "silent
phase" of a Capital Campaign to raise $5 million
dollars and we are about to go public. The
campaign has raised $4 million to date and we are
very excited!
You can already see the results
of the campaign at the zoo. The new addition to
the Animals and Man building is complete and has
provided the elephants and giraffes with more
space. The new Animal Health Center will be open
within the next 30-60 days and the ground is being
prepared for other exhibits.
The new exhibits are: Kansas
Carnivores (mountain lions and river otters),
Hyena Exhibit, African Primate and Bird Exhibit
(three separate exhibits for colobus, lemurs and
birds), Creatures of the Night (bats, tree
kangaroos, sloths, owl monkeys, owls, and other
nocturnal creatures), and the Animal Kingdom
Building (alligators, tortoises, snakes,
amphibians, Komodo dragon, tarantulas, and other
small mammals and birds representative of swamps,
deserts and islands.)
A lot of new and exciting things
are happening! Check the schedule in this issue
for great summer camps and educational
opportunities at your Topeka Zoo. Sign up quickly
because space is limited.
